Sci-Fi Prototyping with Sony Design
Art direction for Sony ONE DAY, 2050 Sci-Fi Prototyping initiative exploring future scenarios of life through speculative design.
Art direction for Sony’s “ONE DAY, 2050” Sci-Fi Prototyping initiative, exploring potential futures of human life through speculative design methodologies.
Overview
The LIFE, 2050 project imagines a future where a new social security system including universal basic income may be implemented. In such a society, people differentiate between “jobs” necessary to sustain life and “work” done purely for enjoyment, changing how people plan their lives.
Life Simulator Concept
The project developed “Life Simulator” - a service concept that visualizes different versions of your future by calculating possibilities based on complex data from the past and present. It helps maximize potential by making inspiring proposals for how to live life, presenting concrete data to show achievability.
Key Features
- AI-based simulation integrating and analyzing a wide range of data
- Theme selection allowing users to choose values they cherish in life (Love, Nature, Creation, Contribution)
- Personalized futures showing possibilities for living a life that feels true to oneself
Science Fiction Story
The project includes “Jobbing & Working” by science fiction writer Taiyo Fujii, set in 2050 Tokyo where essential workers have dramatically increased social status and wages, while universal basic income enables people to pursue fulfilling work beyond necessity.
About Sci-Fi Prototyping
Sony’s ONE DAY, 2050 brings together designers and science fiction writers to imagine Tokyo’s future through speculative design, creating immersive narratives exploring human-AI coexistence, sustainable urban living, and evolving work patterns.
