MWC Barcelona
Interactive installation at global technology conference
Sony Mobile Communications exhibition design at Mobile World Congress Barcelona.
Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona is one of the world’s largest annual technology exhibitions, bringing together industry leaders, innovators, and technology enthusiasts from around the globe. This project involved creating an interactive exhibition design for Sony Mobile Communications’ booth at MWC 2016, built around the launch of the Xperia X.
Project Overview
Working with Studio Abacus, I designed and built the centrepiece of Sony Mobile’s stand: a large interactive table with Xperia X handsets set into its surface. Rather than lining the new phones up on a counter, the table invited visitors to gather around, pick the devices up in context, and explore the launch line-up together.
Design Concept
Xperia X handsets were set into circular cut-outs across the table, their displays lit as part of a shared visual that ran across the surface, with a patterned speaker column rising from the centre. The single shared table let many visitors handle the new phones at once — turning the launch into one connected installation on the show floor, alongside a wall-mounted camera demo showcasing the Xperia X’s ‘fastest camera yet’.
